Okay, folks. I just got back from the best Fishbone show I have ever been to in my life!!!!! The Austin show kicked so much ass that I am still recovering. They did a trillion songs (I will list them if anyone is interested later), and they completely wore us out! How the hell do they keep up all that energy? The crowd was totally into it; and amazingly, a lot of people knew the words to their songs. I also thought it was cool that a few people knew the lyrics from the Nuttwerk record. There was so much energy in the room, and Fishbone brought the house down! It was so worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Houston, and the waste of money at the wack ass Days Inn to see them. After the show, the fellas were friendly, as they always are. They spend a lot of time with their fans taking pictures and signing things. Spacey T. even came out to talk this time!! Before they played "Shakey Ground," Spacey gave a shout-out to Eddie Hazel because he said that Eddie (in so many words) doesn't get enough props for all the work he's done.
...as always...FISHBONE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who else from the austin show thought it kicked ass?

Wow! The only list member I met at that show was Jenna. I'm sorry I missed
you other Houston folks, and Brandon from OK. I don't know if he made it,
but I couldn't find the "buttermilk among the buttermilk with short blond
hair." I thought I may have found him, but it was a fishbone virgin from St.
Louis who was there for Saturday's football game and freaked out when he and
his friends found out fishbone was playing. I was the guy up front next to
the speakers on the right with the long red braid and the Pushead fishbone
T-shirt taking pictures the whole night. The show was a blast. My
sister-in-law went up on stage dancing, my brother's skinny ass swimming
around the crowd, and Fishbone rocking like motherfuckers. I don't know how
the sound was in the back, but in front, the sheer volume made it difficult
to hear what was going on. Especially since most of what we got came off the
stage, which is no kind of mix at all. the drummer from the Urge played the
encores admirably. Steward was incapacitated, probably by allergies. Austin
is known for being harsh to allergic people. If you guys see that guy that
sang the Spanish verses of "One Planet People," let me know how to get hold
of him. I've got some pictures of him up there singing with Angelo I'd like
to send him. And the set list:
(in order, even)
Sunless Saturday
Bonin' in the Boneyard
AIDS and Armageddon
Question Of Life
Ma and Pa
Lyin' Ass Bitch
Where'd You Get Those Pants
Cholly
The Suffering
Shakey Ground
Behavior Control Technician
Monkey Dick
Just Allow
Karma Tsunami
Housework
Party At Ground Zero
encore:
I'm A Weed Plant
One Planet People
Alcoholic
Deep Inside
"The Goose" was on the encore list, too, but they didn't play it. So those
of you hoping to hear it, they are prepared to do it.

To anyone who cares, John actually was suffering from
a mild heat stroke. He had a long sleeve shirt on and
it was hot as hell in that place! We gave him some
water and he sat the rest of the time out. But John
did do a slammin job of a sit in for him.

Fishbone recently performed a concert at The Backroom in Austin
Texas to a sold-out crowd of 2500 screaming fans. The first track
to grace to ears of the hungry attendants was "Sunless", a ska track
off the new release. Though the performance was riveting, the newness
of the song made for a hesitant crowd response, and just when they
were about to shout requests, the band cut into one of their most
popular songs "Bonin'" off of their 1989 record, Truth and Soul.
The audience erupted, bodies soon started flying up in the air,
and a rash of "moshers" and crowd surfers invaded the venue.
As the show went on members of the audience became more bold and
started to getting on one side of the stage, running across it,
then diving into the sea of fans on the other side (myself included).
It was quite a sight to behold, and I would recommend any record
(because they are all good) be added to your collection and to take
advantage of any opportunity to see this band in concert, at any
venue.
It is hard to believe that these gentlemen are playing with such
high intensity such high-energy music and are all in their forties.
Not only was the set an hour and a half long, but the band ended
up playing two encores, playing a total of twenty tunes without
a hitch. So by any means necessary if you get the chance, gather
your friends and check this band out, live or at home, happy fishing!
