for the sake of your own sanity, all informations about the happennings of last WE in LA has been classified confidential, besides for the concerts.
all i can say is that the familyhood is not a concept. it's a reality. as i remember repeating over and over during the bbq: it was so right.
hopefully, when the DVD is out, you'll witness how everything really went nutts.
anyway, back to my azerty keyboard, so my post actually will be readable.
i'm so incredibly proud to have made the trip over to see a band that has the nutts to play two shows with only new music, and actually record it to put it out. When you could be expecting them, at this point of their carreers and considering the anticipation of Fishbone putting ut a live record, to go the esay way and play classics, they just chose the right way. all unreleased kick ass songs.
i love the new music. there are some potential hits but without any compromise.
here's what i remember vividly from the concerts.
Last Dayz : very heavy groove
Git Out of the City : i love this slow jam. fishbone really adds depth to the dr madd vibe release.
Black Box : sorryto say this as always been a less favorite for me. The lyrics are great, but the 1st half of the song could be improved, imo.
Premadawnutt : great great great/ a lot better than the 98 version
Are U Wit It : the bomb: nothing to add. Spacey smokes on that one (and on all others too!)
Lose Our Minds : my favorite new song. a slow phat melancholic funk jam. a future hit. we were so lucky on thursday that they fucked up in the middle of the song and decided to play it over. man, fuck ups like that i want them everytime!
i'm sure i'll have other things to say about the new songs when they'll come back in my head. Right now, i'm totally obsessed by -get out of the city- and -loose our minds- (which seems to have been a song dropped from the gamab sessions, according to spacey).
shout outs to wet daddy - he should be active on the nuttwork because he sure was a maniac at hanging out with us.
big big big big thank you to sarah, the matriarch of the family - she lives up to her nickname.
and, to quote keisha - i love fishbone -

Hey all! I have never posted a review of a show before, but since I see the reviews are scarce, I will try to throw in my experience of the weekend. I got in Friday night, after a 5 hour flight, straight from work, so I was already exhausted when I got there. Everyone from the list was hanging out at the Travelodge rooms (that was the central meeting place). Everyone I met was immediately friendly and pumped up and ready for the second show. I had a lot of fun just chatting to each person to hear their story. We all got along really well, I didn't see any fights, or people rubbing each other the wrong way! It was truly like a reunion,...even though I just met most of the people after a couple of hours it seemed like we all knew each other for years. Maybe because most of us had been to the same shows over the years. (BTW: Jeff Secrest gets my vote for coolest hair.) Anyway, before the show Friday, the band was hanging out at the bar, so I think most of the list members got to meet the band (if they hadn't yet met them before) and there was a lot of picture taking then. I thought the show was fantastic. I agree, it is hard to take a whole set of new songs with nothing old or familiar, but that wasn't the case here.
Even though most of the new stuff is much harder (especially harder than Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx), it seemed like the songs had a catch or riff that stuff in your head. I still can't get Primadawnutt out of my mind right now. I think the coolest thing was Angelo asked who came from out of town raise your hands, and of course the whole nuttwork neighborhood had their hands up, and Angelo commented how they were all up front right up in front of the stage doing the most dancing, giving the most support. That was really beautiful. My favorites were Black Box (sorry Denis, but I thought that song rocked) and Get out of the city (title?). For the encore, Angelo read a poem and asked the rest of the band what they were waiting for and then they came back out and did alcoholic. The BBQ on Saturday was really fun. There were endless amounts of food, and I so was happy to be chatting with everyone, I didn't realize I forgot to eat until we were in the car going home. The chef (forgot his name) was funny, he was hardcore bbq-ing, and had endless coolers of meat, even stuff marinating for hours and when the cooking slowed down he would do old dances like the running man and the cabbage patch, too funny. The water was like Russian-polar-bear-club-freezing, but some crazies went swimming anyway (you know who you are). The filmmakers were at the bbq, and there was a lot of picture-taking, which I'm sure will get posted for you all to see in the next couple of weeks. Be kind though, most of us didn't get more than a few hours sleep the whole weekend. Ase was there in her little leopard print bikini, stealing the show. She is such a happy and beautiful baby, and was so happy to be held by anyone who wanted to hold her. She really is a joy, and a reflection of her too-cool mom. The evening ended with a bonfire and everyone dancing around at the beach. (Denis gets the award for the winner of the bbq danceathon...how long were you dancing Denis, 5 - 6 hours straight?!?) It was pretty damn cold after a while and with my thin Florida blood, I had to jet to the car and turn on the heater. We should definitely do this again, with more planning time next year. I think the happiness and friendliness was so high that everyone on the list should experience it. I do see now that it is truly a family! Okay, that's my take, I just got in on a red eye flight and am sitting here at my desk trying to draft a contract and my eyes are tearing up....fatigue,
happiness, or just bored with this job? Probably all.

Man oh man....what a weekend. Like Sarah said, gives us some time to recover a bit and gather our thoughts because a LOT of stuff went on that weekend, from a lot of different perspectives. First and foremost what everybody wants to know: The new material. A lot of us have heard four or more of the new songs on the last tour, but they worked them a little differently for the Temple Bar shows (I'd imagine for the recording) and they were great. The six songs that hadn't been performed before last weekend are sick! Madd sick! I told Walt that I thought the way the music scene is right now, this new record would be like hitting people in the head with a brick. The best word to describe the new stuff is "powerful". Whether you like the funk, the rock, the ska, the jazz, the blues, or the reggae, Fishbone brought it strong at the shows. No Hollywood Record influence here. I'll try to break down the new songs below.

Last Dayz is the shit, heavy groove with da' reggae twist. Skank and go Nuttz, Are u wid it, etc. HOT Damn, This is Fishbone! PFN is a good album, but this is the shit Hollywood wrekordz should have let them do. Also, I finally got to meet some of the memberz of Da' List. I met Nicole, Brian, Trip, Dennis, and Jenna. Hey all!!
We just got in a couple of hours ago...but man, we miss being in Santa Monica. All the way home all we could talk about was missing our new family. The
drive home was just a dazing swirl of laughter and storytelling. For all of you that didn't get to go, I will do my best to recount, to the best of my recollection, any and all happenings.
First, the familyhood. I never knew that I could instantly love so many people. Everyone was just so great! I miss you all and I wish that I could have spent just a few more hours with you... The familyhood is a reality that finally set in for me...and I am truly blessed to be a part of it.
I don't know if you want details of filming and all of that, but if you do, I'll be glad to put in my two cents...but I won't for now, I don't want to rub it in...
Now...for music!!
I cannot begin to explain, especially since I'm running off of a few hours of sleep, how much the new music moved me and how I cannot get the songs out of
my head. Totally electrifying and amazingly powerful, the list is as follows:
Skank n' go nuts--Such an "I wanna just throw my arms up and dance" song that I still cannot get it out of my head. This is one of my favorites and I see it
being a lot of other's as well.
Heat of Anger--So powerful, such a message, driven and very moving...
Last Dayz--Maddvibe to music is always an awesome way to go, I love this song and it lays down such a groove...
Get out of the city--so good that you just have to participate...
Black Box--I can only remember a little of this one, it's still growing on me, but it's got some great lyrics
Premadawnutt--I know I liked this one, but I can't pull the tune up in my head...hopefully one of the others can do a better job of a review on it
The Devil Made Me do it--funky and strong...one of my favorites as well
Are U Wit it--Oh, my GOG!! So good...got the groove to make yo' booty move...This song just takes you to another place no matter where you are...
Dance it on Down--So far, my favorite...it really hits home and lets you know that it's okay to have a bad day...one to listen to when you need to let off some steam. So high powered and funky, if you haven't heard it, you are going to love it...
Lose Our Minds--slow groove that lets you feel some Fishbone
Demon in Here--Nicely heavy and great to mosh to...really exorcised some demons..
Frey'd fucking nerve endings--even more powerful and twice as heavy as "Demon", this song got me thrown on stage a few times just from the human tidal force that was crashing me from behind...
And We Fly--Also one of my favorites...this song is forever in my heart. It is beautiful and soulful, a perfect song for a new generation of Fishbone
I think that was all of them. If I didn't review them to anyone's satisfaction, I am very sorry, but I am still in a daze from this past weekend and I am tired... Maybe someone else will fill in my gaps..All in all, I had the most amazing time of my life and I am so glad that I decided to go ahead and make the trip.
I wish I could have met everyone else from the list, I miss all of you that I did meet, and I'm going to go and have some very good dreams.
